Not just German names
Researched across Europe

Where our figures come from
  • Germany: distribution across all 402 districts (phone-book data from around 2001), birthplaces from the 1914–18 casualty lists, a place index of 791,000 places in twelve countries
  • France: INSEE death records since 1970 with municipality of birth — a real map for every name
  • Poland: PESEL register, name bearers per voivodeship (as of 2026)
  • Netherlands: Nederlandse Familienamenbank (CBG / Meertens Instituut), name bearers per municipality in 2007 and 1947
  • Belgium: Statbel, name bearers per municipality (as of 2026)
  • Everywhere: name interpretation from onomastic sources (Duden, DWDS, Geneanet, historical dictionaries), place-name matching, regional history

For countries without their own distribution data, we tell the story of the name through language, region of origin and historical maps — honestly labelled, nothing invented.
